Food Matters
Here’s something I’ve heard my whole life and ignored, but when I finally paid attention to it, I was surprised anyway. As if I just discovered something everyone already knows. That’s because I just operate under the assumption that rules are for other people and that what works for you would never work for me. Case in point: Diet.
I think I just want to live in a world where I can eat any way that I want with zero consequences, so when people tell me that eating better makes a difference, my first reaction is: Yeah, for you, maybe. I’m not a child, but I am childish.
So I finally took a look at what to eat and when and, man, it makes a huge difference in how I feel. If I eat more veggies than carbs I feel so much better. And if I stop eating sweets right before bedtime, I don’t wake up with a headache and a strong desire to skip the day entirely.
Here’s your free life coach advice:
Don’t eat sweets before bed.
Eat more veggies. To make that easier, I’m including my wife’s Japanese Kobocha recipe. It’s easy and delicious.
Get a kabocha from a Japanese market.
Cut it open and scrape out the seeds.
Chop it up into bite sized pieces.
Put the pieces in a pot with a cup of water,
Add a dash of salt, a splash of Mirin, a dash of sugar.
Cook for 15 minutes covered.
EAT IT.
PS. You can also just toss it all into a microwave.
If you snack on bread or chips during the day, try eating this delicious Kabocha instead. Skip the sweets before bed altogether. Do this for a week and I’ll bet you’ll feel better overall.
If you already eat really well, you should be a free life coach. Tell us in the comments how you do it!
That kabocha looks super yummy, thanks for the fresh idea. Since the days are short and cold, I often find that I don't care to spend time cooking for myself, unless making a sandwich counts. What I've found to be fast, tasty and inexpensive is buying microwavable vegetables. Try ones like the Green Giant Simply Steam, my fave is the brussel sprouts. Nuke those up, add 2-3 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese, and a little sea salt & pepper. Ta Da. Perfect for Meatless Mondays when I make 2 boxes! Have a blessed day folks!
Unfortunately I ate Swedish Fish at 11pm before reading this article. When you know better you do better, so next time I will eat them earlier
